Trouble in Socialist Paradise

Antifa/BLM continues to nightly mount some form of demonstration or “direct action”, normally now outside of downtown Portland, with organized black bloc groups in the hundreds assailing police precincts, the police union hall and Mayor Wheeler’s divorce-necessitated condo, which he’s since abandoned because of Antifa harrassment (driven from a second home by female braying?).

Insurrectionist numbers are declining down to hardcore committed Antifa and a few furious blacks, in increasing disharmony.

Black speakers predominate at demonstrations now, in keeping with the movement’s determination to be led by blacks, who rail at length before supplicant whites about being marginalized and not getting paid. When the whites aren’t submitting to this, they’re busy organizing and sometimes throwing themselves at riot police. The dynamic is a predictable cliché: black freeloaders, grifters and thugs hustling naïve whites; even within the BLM movement its silly premises are comically contradicted.

Those earnest black bloc kids were out last night in teams blocking off streets for a small march as they do; sad they were, perhaps, at the low turnout and feel compared to midsummer, when the energy was high and they didn’t stand out as much. Blending into those crowds wasn’t just good for evading police; it made it harder for black predators as well. Now that the normie-adjacent element is gone, it’s just Antifa standing out there to be harangued, and sometimes assaulted, by their black “accomplices” (a movement term).

Perhaps because things are slowing down and there’s less grift (and attention) to go around, unhappy black protest leaders are calling out white press or livestreamers for “profiting” off of blacks, by taking donations when they, say, livestream black protest leaders complaining about them profiting off of blacks.

Working for the Weekend

A perfect storm is forming as rightwing patriots and antifa prepare to square off in Portland this Saturday, where the patriots plan to rally in a North Portland park. It’s not quite a month since Aaron Danielson was executed on the street after the last confrontation, when the patriots’ pro-Trump car caravan invaded downtown. The two sides’ hatred for one another is at fever pitch.

At the same time police capability is at a nadir, thanks to the lawfare of ACLU lawyers and at least one friendly federal judge, Portland Mayor and Police Commissioner Ted Wheeler’s prohibition of the use of teargas–the specific reason the Multnomah County Sheriff and Oregon State Patrol have refused to assist the beleaguered Portland Police Bureau this Saturday–and of course the county’s district attorney’s expressed bias against charging rioters. The police chief spoke out of turn publicly when he declared his officers would use teargas if lives were endangered, drawing a rare public rebuke from Mayor Ted.

The patriots moved the demonstration from downtown to Delta Park, which is just over the bridge from Patriot Prayer’s home turf in Vancouver Washington. The city has denied them a permit, citing Covid restrictions. There is no hypocrisy here, as antifa never requests permits.

So the stage is set for larger, angrier crowds squaring off before a demoralized, exhausted, understaffed and legally restrained police force. What could possibly go wrong?

Fi-yuh

Yesterday over Portland the sun looked smaller, like a glowing red pearl in watery clam sauce. The state still has dozens of fires. The wind has calmed and it’s cool here as well, and the mist seems to hold less smoke, judging by its color and the absence (I think) of the faint scent of burning. Today the weather is indistinguishable from a June morning in Southern California other than the unnatural sunlight, now less red and more yellow. With the calming weather we are getting a break.

Rumors are flying about antifa setting fires and there are some arsonists in custody. So far they appear to be typical firebugs drawn by the spectacle but for one with some connection to antifa. The details of his arrest don’t suggest an organizational scheme but mental illness–he started a fire, called the cops and managed to talk himself into arrest on scene. Fragments have emerged on Twitter, from the right pushing the antifa arsonist line. There’s a Clackamas deputy Sheriff speculating here that people are staging accelerants and the like:

In another a young man shows photos of purported arsonists on the scene of a fire:

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Clackamas County, bordering to the south Portland’s Multnomah County, has been hard hit, and is American patriot turf–the fatal car caravan that resulted in the murder of Aaron Danielson originated there.

Antifa involvement need not be a conspiracy originating in leadership circles; the movement has produced or attracted God-knows how many unbalanced people, any of which might take it upon himself to start a fire.

Also, just as the dry summer weather and invasive bark beetles killing trees desiccated the landscape ahead of the fires, antifa’s summer terror has wrung the calm out of our psychological landscape, and it would be naïve not to assume it contributed to the pyromaniac element, whatever its dimensions. It seems certain the fires have at least attracted the kind of crazies we can expect, who may be more numerous and more crazy in our current environment of cop-hate and black-worship.

I found myself wondering recently what if we had a major emergency such as this and all of a sudden we all need the police as part of a disaster response. Here we have one and we see there’ll be no lessening in the campaign against police or softening of sentiment against them from the left, as well as evidence of just how much trust law enforcement has for the public has been degraded.

The media of course has leapt into action regarding arson-speculation, squelching the rumors before they spread, busy “debunking” the chatter on the ground with an FBI report, as if anyone really knows just yet. Whether it’s panic or not, it appears armed patriots are out in rural areas looking for potential arsonists, and a Clackamas County deputy sheriff is on leave for this recording advising “militia” members on escaping prosecution if they should take out an arsonist:

Sergio Olmos, antifa allied freelance journalist who’s been covering the Portland riots, was chased off by armed men near one fire, apparently for looking like antifa, and there are reports of roadblock checkpoints in Corbett, about twenty miles from Portland. All this will be presented as baseless panic in the media, but considering the rabid summer we’ve just endured, suspecting political terrorists are behind or taking advantage of this is hardly paranoid, and not nearly as crazy as the tenets of “systemic racism” and “reimagining policing”. Indeed, it would be more irresponsible to give no consideration to the possibility of political actors at least taking advantage of the chaos, than not.

Siege Notes September 4: Going Down the Reinoehl

Michael Reinoehl went out in a hail of federal lead. This is shortly after giving an exclusive interview to Vice, through an antifa-allied Portland journalist, where he claimed self-defense (notably, acknowledging guilt against the advice of “lots of lawyers”). Vice teased the videotaped interview but have yet to release it complete. Whether Reinoehl’s end causes trouble for them or their Portland-based operative remains to be seen. It need not be that Vice dropped the proverbial dime on the antifa hero, but if antifa makes the reasonable conjecture Vice’s recklessness only prompted the US Marshal-led raid and execution, or even contributed to his being found it could create another troublesome rift for the BLM/antifa movement.

If the idea of joining a posse hunting antifa as a deputized US Marshal appeals to you, it’s probably not a possibility, despite my musing earlier it might be technically legal. Still, while the practice of deputation as a US Marshal is limited to law enforcement the language remains open:

The Director, United States Marshals Service, is authorized to deputize the following persons to perform the functions of a Deputy U.S. Marshal in any district designated by the Director:

(a) Selected officers or employees of the Department of Justice;

(b) Selected federal, state, or local law enforcement officers whenever the law enforcement needs of the U.S. Marshals Service so require;

(c) Selected employees of private security companies in providing courtroom security for the Federal judiciary;

(d) Other persons designated by the Associate Attorney General pursuant to 28 CFR 0.19(a)(3)

Standard practice it appears is you have to be a law enforcement officer with at least a year of experience to be deputized for certain special cases–maybe for participation in such as a drug task force or the multi-agency posse that lit up Reinoehl.

Still, elsewhere the language leaves openings: “persons with law enforcement training” can be deputized. I envision a future not of Trump deputizing patriots to fight antifa in the face of local inaction but of the triumphant new order come November deputizing the self-styled security forces of Portland BLM after a quick, heavily pozzed course in “law enforcement”, to put down the riotous insurrection of right wing militias.

Those security forces are implicated in the murder of Aaron Danielson by way of Reinhoehl, and they are probably the same gang that assaulted Adam Haner. I further suspect they are the same group that provided the muscle in the shake-down of antifa’s Riot Ribs franchise, which handed over its donations and operations to Don’t Shoot PDX after a campaign of intimidation.

Reinoehl makes a lot of his role as “security” in his interview with Vice, pleading not just self defense but defense of the city from the Trump car-hordes. He is in fact associated to some extent with the criminal gang that beat Adam Haner and others on the street during the Night of the Cheap Shots. On Twitter Kitty Shackleford reveals he can be identified at several points hanging around the assault on Haner, and seems to take direction from apparent ringleader “DC”.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

By the way, here’s an individual we’ve seen before, when his photo was released after an arrest for assaulting a federal employee with death threats outside the courthouse. That photo matched him to a photo released by Portland Police looking for suspects in the Adam Haner attack. I don’t know that he participated in the assault, but he’s with the group, the self-styled BLM security team. I found the same guy in video I took from the BLM/Patriot Prayer showdown. In every instance we encounter him–in the arrest report and the two videos–he’s doing the same thing, threatening to shoot someone.

“Princess”, the gender-indeterminate hench, er, man, has since shaved her golden locks and sports a tube top, and is still running the streets along with everyone else involved in the Haner attack not named Marquis Love. Shackleford also reports on the child gangs, still roving the blocks around the 7/11 and causing mayhem. Many of these youngsters become peripherally involved in the actions of BLM security–as they were for the Adam Haner attack.

I don’t know that the gang that beat Haner is the same as that which appears to have shaken down Riot Ribs and forced them to hand over their donations to black-led Don’t Shoot PDX, but Portland is small, and black Portland smaller still. I don’t see any other criminal gangs turning up in the copious video documentation.

Thus even in the absence of antifa transparency and media interest, we see a connection between recognized BLM “security” in the murder of Danielson, the beating of Haner and the looting of Riot Ribs on behalf of Don’t Shoot PDX.

Not that anyone is paying attention, but Don’t Shoot and the BLM campaign as a whole dodged a bullet when Reinoehl caught one. His playing up his role as security–whether delusional or not–conceivably could have tied the murder and other violence to BLM in the public mind.

Siege Notes Portland: Justice for Fun and Profit

Child gangs still scourge the blocks around the ill-starred 7/11 on Fourth and Taylor. The other night I gingerly navigated around one group of precocious black thugs, early and maybe pre teens, trading threats with a similar group a half a block away. There I thought I saw the same furious hispanic kid who’s always on the scene. He can’t be fourteen years old; four foot something and always ready to fight, the only thing saving his victims, so far, is his tiny stature.

Downtown remains abandoned for the most part by antifa–and the blocks around the jail and federal buildings remain abandoned for the most part by police in the late evening/early morning hours. The child gangs and other criminal types run the streets–but there isn’t enough prey left, with antifa’s absence (how much that has to do with the black criminal element is a good question) and even the homeless, having endured classical music over a loudspeaker for years to maintain a continual camp around the 7/11, are thinned down to the last few hardcore helpless. With the streets this bare the child gangs’ only prey are each other and random motorists they’ve been known to challenge to fight. One acquaintance, an Iraqi who can’t go home because he worked for the US military in the Iraq War, told me of this happening to him–though this was about a month ago.

There’s a vigil in the dozens around the ruined site of the Elk Statue nightly that appears to be white antifa, while the presence across the park, a row of tents squared off with the courthouse across the street, is black. Black Lives Matter T-shirts for sale, of course. A “BLM Ribs” operates there, I don’t know if they sell their food or just accept donations–the old, white “Riot Ribs” having been brought down by at least one money-making scheme, of which the alleged killer of Aaron “Jay” Danielson was allegedly a part.

The original Riot Ribs raised their profile and a good deal of money giving away food, and thus drew the attention of criminal and political hustlers alike. After a false Riot Ribs started soliciting donations in July, the operation was turned over to Don’t Shoot PDX, an anti-cop group led by a current write-in candidate for mayor, and hectoring Demetria Hester:

“We would like to transition Riot Ribs over to organizations that are better equipped to provide permanent mutual aid in Portland,” explains Riot Ribs spokesperson Beans. “We feel as though we have a moral obligation to work with other mutual aid groups across the country and spread our resources.”

To this end, Riot Ribs Portland will be transferring leadership—and the majority of funds—to police accountability group Don’t Shoot PDX with Don’t Shoot’s Demetria Hester acting the point person for the transition. Meanwhile, a mobile Riot Ribs spinoff, dubbed Revolution Ribs, will be hitting the road with in a pair of newly purchased vans stocked with food, grills, and coolers.

The wider operations never materialized and the thing was shut down. It’s almost as if it was, er, looted.

(Antifa’s dowdy “snack truck” did turn up in Washington DC, however to get its tires slashed by the cops there.)

Remarkably the Mercury blog post above doesn’t mention the context; the original operators packed it in after a campaign of theft and intimidation two days after the post above, on July 27:

Riot Ribs is dissolving completely. We have someone who is trying to profit off of our movement who continues to volunteer in the park, pretending he’s involved with Riot Ribs.

— RIOT RIBS 🔥 (@riotribs) July 27, 2020
“Riot Ribs is dissolving completely,” said the tweet.

The group said it has been targeted with threats and assaults, and that someone had repeatedly misrepresented themselves as part of the organization in Lownsdale Square.

In addition to their operations at Lownsdale Square, which sits directly opposite the federal courthouse, Riot Ribs has also operated on Southwest Fourth Avenue and Salmon Street. Police have seized Riot Ribs’ supplies at least once, including on July 16…

“All volunteers should leave the park immediately and do not continue to come to the tents,” Riot Ribs tweeted. “Tell anyone you know that’s at the park to leave. We are going to regroup and will be back.”

On Friday, the group had Tweeted that they would no longer be accepting money, as they had raised more than $300,000 in donations. They also said that others had been impersonating Riot Ribs and trying to solicit donations for a cash app account that wasn’t affiliated with the organization.

The organization had just transferred leadership to Don’t Shoot Portland, a nonprofit community activism group led by Teressa Raiford. The Portland Mercury first reported the news.

In the tweet announcing their dissolution, Riot Ribs said they still plan to give back all the money they’ve raised to the community, but didn’t immediately specify how the money would be spent.

Riot Ribs first emerged July 4, setting up in Lownsdale Square and cooking food for the protesters who showed up downtown each night.

Those antifa pipsqueaks don’t think they’re just going to walk away with their three hundred K, did they?

Siege Notes August 31: Murderlarping

“You like Trump?”

She sounded surprised. I had tried to give a discreet thumbs up, sitting on my bike at the curb, when she hoisted a Trump flag out the passenger window of a late-model American car pulling up to a red light. She did this with the cheerful defiance of a high school prankster.

“Yeah. Don’t tell anybody.” I said, indicating the downtown Portland setting around us, only half joking. She was a beauty: blonde, broad-faced, offensively healthy and wholesome, her Nordic vigor and cheerful credulity an anachronism here and now, her not-yet-defiled state–precarious though it may be, as for all young women this day and age–a source of immediate suspicion.

Here lies the body of Mary Lee,

died at the age of a hundred and three

For fifteen years she kept her virginity,

not a bad record for this vicinity

“Somebody got shot here last night.” She said, suddenly adopting the self-conscious seriousness of a child.

“Yeah. Right there.” I pointed to the spot, just the other side of the intersection, where Aaron Danielson was executed the night before after a pro-Trump car caravan invaded downtown and set off the prickly rage that is now the city’s defining feature, beneath all the increasingly hollow counter-culture posturing.

“Really?” She said. The false aspect of her manner evaporated; her expression was genuine surprise. She had had no idea.

Three or four people were sticking American flags in the dirt around a sidewalk tree where the patriot collapsed, face-first in the street. A young man awkwardly climbed up to drape a flag from its branches. A camera crew–just three young people, one with a professional-grade video camera–waited on the other side of the street; ghouls, like me, waiting for something to happen.

Nothing did, thankfully. Later after sundown I went back to look again.  A few–fewer than were there before–US flags stuck in the hard dry dirt, woeful, and a fashioned cross lashed to the tree’s trunk. No one was paying the place the least attention.

Mean Mr Means

A twenty year-old man was arrested for assaulting a federal employee yesterday at the US District Court:

A Portland man has been charged for forcibly assaulting and intimidating a federal worker near the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse, U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams announced.

On August 24, Dakota Kurtis Means allegedly began following an employee around 5:30 a.m. while yelling obscenities. Court documents say he was carrying a black paintball rifle and told the employee “it’s a paintball gun now, but it’s going to be an AR later.” U.S. Marshals Service deputies arrested the 20-year-old a short time later.

Means was charged with forcibly assaulting, impeding, and intimidating a federal employee while engaged in or on account of the performance of their official duties — a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in federal prison.

He pleaded not guilty at his first court appearance on the same day as his arrest. A one-day jury trial is scheduled to begin on October 27.

This is the same guy I recorded here threatening to return with a gun after arguing with patriot protesters on Saturday:

As I noted before, he’s also in this photo police have released looking for persons of interest relating to the Adam Haner Beating:

d8d5d383-3867-42b5-814b-e9d4b2432abd-crimestopperassault4

Reviewing the video we see he’s definitely on the street with the group of attackers when the trouble begins. At one point he seems to be harassing Haner as he tries to pull away from the 7/11 in his truck (around 4:10):

I don’t see him toward the end–but I have a hard time watching  this video. Whatever the case, I’m sure Portland Police have already identified this guy. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Lawlessness and Larping

I was struck by how small the antifa kids looked crouching behind their wall of shields placed side-by-side and resting on the ground, as they squared off against their right-wing counterparts on Saturday.

It’s a defensive posture they take up when police have to clear them from the street. Forcing cops to go heavy it’s as much about prompting police violence as it is about resisting If the cops fail to clear the group it’s a win on the ground, if they succeed it’s a win in the agitprop media. The formation also looks a lot more formidable at night, when you don’t see the goggles peering and scrawny bodies squatting, just a dark mass.

But deploying the wall as their enemy formed up in a column to withdraw was just pointless grandstanding. The little phalanx they formed at the rear of the enemy’s column followed along for a few minutes, the antfa kids coming up out of their crouch as a group to advance about ten yards before settling back in, scooting along behind the retreating patriots as if sweeping them out of town.

Despite their chaotic withdrawal the patriots managed to hold the street between antifa and the cops all afternoon, won the handful of fistfights that broke out and even managed to withdraw their more vulnerable people before navigating a sea of antifa with a lot of clamor but no injuries or making any criminal mistakes. Portland Police arrested a right winger for firing off a gun as his group escaped a parking garage last August 15.

A handgun was drawn briefly at the end, when the last contingent of less than ten patriots were preparing to escape the parking garage.

No police were on scene throughout the day. Two or three times the police sound truck pulled up a couple of blocks away and advised against breaking the law, while respecting everyone’s “right to protest”; at first the announcements seemed calibrated to infer you’re on your own. Later they threatened to declare a riot–as both sides scuffled and traded projectiles. They never did intervene, only coming in to clear out the park after the patriots had gone, leaving behind them hundreds of worked-up antifa.

Siege Notes August 21

Marquis Love has turned himself in to police:

Marquise Love, 25, turned himself in on Friday morning, police said. Love is facing a felony charges of 2nd-degree assault, coercion, and a count of riot.

Second degree assault is a Class B felony and appears to carry a maximum of ten years.

Federal office buildings are closed due to a car bomb threat, or so anonymous feds told the AP,
and the city joined federal government in sending employees home at noon. Tomorrow more putative right-wing demonstrations downtown are planned, and antifa social media is abuzz with plans.

Jo Ann Hardesty is calling all antifa:

Good luck Portland indeed.

Love on the Lam

If not for two or three independent livestream journalists on the ground* recording it and 4 Chan identifying a suspect, the savage beating of Adam Haner in downtown Portland might have never come to the broader public’s attention. Despite a camera in every hand and no shortage of antifa sympathizers claiming press status (you have to wonder if any of these witnessed but didn’t report at least some of the violence–which was extensive after all–leading up to Haner’s beating).

The Portland Police have officially identified the suspect Marquise Love who remains at large.

Downtown was deserted again last night, and it was easy to imagine it was due to shame.
But antifa managed to muster their usual two hundred or so and returned to the police union hall to engage in low-level violent harassment.

The beating of Adam Haner revealed the extent to which the criminal black element has taken over. Antifa’s abandonment of its nighttime occupation of the blocks around the jail and federal court, which was still unopposed by the city and cops, may have to do with the likes of Marquise’s gang taking over, or just wrecking, the occupation camp, where wilding mobs of children fight in the surrounding streets and harass vulnerable adults.

One gang was reportedly camping in and operating out of Chapman Square across from the jail–who says black people don’t like camping?

Antifa may have been chased out of downtown by the black criminals they liberated from police. For about two weeks now Portland’s antifa have left downtown in relative peace while concentrating on smaller targets using smaller, more disciplined crowds across the Willamette River in Portland’s northeast.

The Haner beating happened on a night when the lull downtown was interrupted, and a restive crowd in the hundreds got down. The attack also happened relatively early–around ten thirty. The video above was taken at 9:07, at the same intersection, Fourth and Taylor, where they first set upon Adam Haner. The dispute here seems to have originated over the gang attacking a homeless man. Of course no police are on scene but it’s doubtful people even call them for the small stuff now.

Antifa abandoned downtown and went east after the entry of ally District Attorney Mike Schmidt and his declaration to not prosecute, literally, rioting. They can almost do whatever they want. They could’ve gotten smaller at the same time due to waning energy; they’re down to the committed hardcore now. But there could be more to the story.

At the very least it seems antifa is better equipped to control its smaller actions of the northern campaign. Downtown draws all manner of hangers-on, and the black criminal element is visible and threatening in the midst of the freak show.

Speeches are still given over a PA in front of the Justice Center in the early evening, and in trying to outdo one another black speakers–and it’s mostly black, some Other and rare whites now–reach ever greater levels of stupidity and violence, as you’ve seen. Whites clap unthinkingly, reacting to the rhythm and vaguely recognizable platitudes, just waiting to get through it like a boring sermon; the applause does die off–never completely–when it devolves into calls for blood.

Marquise Love and crew may have been present for one of these speeches, but the point is their malice never really needed them.
