A freight car derailed near Portland’s north waterfront this afternoon.
The car came off the tracks well ahead of where it stopped, carving an impressive set of grooves in Naito Parkway.
This is not far from the loading yards and the train would be slowing up at this point (making this an awful crossing to get stuck at in a car). Authorities said the car was carrying grain.
The train dragged the car for about seventy five feet, dislocating a platform at its starting point. I saw no evidence of foul play but I wouldn’t know what that looks like anyway.
